Belstaff - Concept, Art Direction & Styling

Re-brand of all imagery for the Belstaff website. Taking inspiration from the brands history and old photographs…

Belstaff is a brand with a lot of heritage. When they asked me to create a fresh, new style for their online imagery I jumped at the chance. After thoroughly researching the brands history from bike racing to pilots (including pioneering aviatrixes Amy Johnson and Amelia Earhart!) to WWII supplies. I loved the idea of having a grainy like textured background to the model shots to replicate the grainy look of the old photographs I had researched. The background chosen was a taupe coloured fabric sweep, that had to be pinned down for perfection. The lighting highlighted the model in the centre of the shot, yet isn’t too harsh so that small details in the products are lost. Their sub branded collection was then shot on a simpler pale grey sweep to differentiate the two collections A range of poses were chosen as well as a selection of models cast for each seasons collection. Since this shoot, Belstaff continue to use a fabric backdrop to their online shots.
